Milestones of Service

The Governor’s Veterans Advisory Council serves as a catalyst for meaningful change. By translating the lived experiences of Vermont’s veterans into actionable policy recommendations, we have successfully influenced legislation, streamlined access to state benefits, and strengthened the network of support for military families. This page highlights the milestones we have achieved through bipartisan collaboration and dedicated advocacy.

Accomplishments

  • Supported the creation of the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery
  • Created and expanded the Vermont Veterans License Plate Program (and its various configuration, including motorcycle plates)
  • Supported the creation of the Office of Veterans Affairs Service Officer Program
  • Increased access to state hiring for veterans
  • Created the Armed Services Scholarship for spouses and children of military members killed on active duty

Partnering and Collaboration

  • Identify: Pinpoint key legislative and program initiatives based on the current needs of the veteran community.
  • Collaborate: Partner with Vermont’s military network, including Service Officers, community organizations, and veteran advocates.
